Title: Cook/Custodian


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Head Start knowledge/experience preferred
  • Current Food Handlers Permit
  • Experience in quantity food preparation.
  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Valid drivers license, dependable transportation with minimum automobile liability insurance.
  • Pass drug screen and criminal background check.


Supervisor

Nutrition Specialist


Job Duties

  • Responsible for the center food operation in compliance with all Head Start Performance Standards and food service regulations.
  • Maintain food preparation and storage area in safe, clean, and sanitary manner that complies with State Health Department.
  • Follow daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule.
  • Assist Nutrition Specialist with menu planning.
  • Maintain files on diets for special needs children.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies in good condition and working order.
  • Submit a written inventory of all food and supplies weekly to the Nutrition Service Office.
  • Act as bus monitor when necessary.
  • Responsible for USDA Point of Service.
  • Receive supplies, rotate stock, and put away new supplies.
  • Attend all meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, and conferences as requested by the supervisor.
  • Ensure all purchase orders, IT, and maintenance request are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Participate in Child Nutrition Activity 1 time per month.
  • Perform the following custodial duties that apply to your center:
    • Keep restrooms clean.
    • Clean center daily, sweep, mop, and dust.
    • Responsible for cleaning mop heads.
    • Sweep walkways to building as needed.
    • Remove ice and snow from walkways.
    • Report needed repairs of fixtures and building to Center Manager.
    • Keep towel, toilet tissue, and soap dispenser filled at all times.
    • Shampoo carpet and rugs when necessary.
    • Strip, wax, and buff tile floors.
    • Maintain cleanliness of center at all times.
  • Work flexible hours when necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Lift 50 lbs., and demonstrate ability to participate in mild to moderate activities with children.
  • Receive and maintain standard First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Receive bi-annual physical exam.
  • Deal effectively with public.
  • Demonstrate ability to work as a team member and develop positive rapport and professional attitude towards parents and staff.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead and follow.
  • Demonstrate ability to make decisions.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand and follow posted work rules and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to accept constructive criticism.
  • Demonstrate ability to arrive to work on time.
  • Ensure the Head Start Director is informed on pertinent issues.
  • Perform all duties incidental to the position, and any other duties as assigned.
