Job Description

We are seeking a Data Center Design Engineer to work on expansion, upgrade, new build and fit-out projects for our Data Centres.

In this position you will be directly involved with the design and implementation of Data Center infrastructure projects.

Additionally, you will collaborate with a broad group of stakeholders to engineer new standards and deliver improved operational methods.

Position is UK based and will have an EAME scope, involving moderately frequent business trips.


Principle Accountabilities Include:

  • Design and oversee the implementation of data centers power supply from the main switch through rack level PDUs including all intermediate UPS, PDU and switch gear.
  • Design of data center cooling solutions for HPC, including immersion cooling.
  • Liaise with Center Management, facilities and UNIX teams to ensure that all projects progress smoothly, on schedule and within budget. These projects include new installations, infrastructure upgrades and procedural changes.
  • Define standards for the installation of new hardware & monitoring systems.
  • Produce indicators to monitor the use of computer rooms and produce the capacity planning.
  • Manage contracts related to our small data centers in EAME and work with the local teams directly to ensure timely completion of all work.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and new technologies related to data center infrastructure (cooling, power, security & monitoring systems and floor layout). Propose and prototype new standards based on new technology.
  • Develop new best practices that will reduce unscheduled downtime, improve operations, reliability, safety, or energy efficiency globally. Ensure best practices and global standards are in place.


Additional responsibilities include:

  • Collect data on mission critical systems and maintain historical records.
  • Monitor and recommend changes to electrical/mechanical distribution and BMS to maintain optimal operating and environmental conditions.
  • Help to maintain records on data center infrastructure contracts and equipment including layout, history, capacity and colocation contracts.


Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar position.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with:

o Power distribution and cooling technology, costs and trade-offs.

o Capacity planning for new compute and storage equipment installs.

o Experience with data center thermal simulation (CFD software) and CAD software.

o Experience in data center infrastructure (power and cooling) design.

o Familiarity with data center guidelines and standards especially ASME/ASHRAE/NFPA.

  • Demonstrated ability to:

o Work collaboratively with the local campus facilities engineers and IT teams.

o Communicate effectively (written & oral) across international teams.

  • Desired additional skills:

o Familiarity with commodity compute and storage systems.

o Maintenance schedules, contracts.
