Job Summary: The Mortgage Banking Assistant is responsible for supporting mortgage loan officers by performing various administrative functions. They will become a key contact person to mortgage customers when the lender is unavailable by providing a high level of customer support.
- Second point of contact for mortgage clients by answering telephone calls, responding to emails, and responding to other inquiries in a timely fashion when needed. Prepare reports and statements as requested to assist the customer.
- Assist lenders with construction loan portfolios by preparing and submitting construction draw requests.
- Assist lenders with the evaluation of new loan requests by:
- Inputting borrower information into application software
- Reviewing applications for completeness and accuracy
- Ordering credit reports
- Prepare new mortgage loan files for processing by:
- Organizing and preparing necessary documentation according to the approved mortgage loan audit sheet
- Reviewing customer information for accuracy using Bank policies and Freddie Mac mortgage underwriting guidelines
- Prepare and send mortgage related verification forms
- Effectively communicate with the mortgage processing department
- Prepare mortgage loan modifications for processing by:
- Organizing and preparing necessary customer information according to the approved mortgage loan modification audit sheet
- Reviewing modification requests using bank policies and Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines
- Assist out of office lenders with in process mortgage loan files by:
- Being the direct point of contact for mortgage clients and Realtors
- Sorting and reviewing follow-up documentation provided by the customer
- Reviewing and sending clients appraisal reports
- Satisfying underwriting conditions
- Reviewing and sending clients final closing disclosures
- Preparing and sending final loan approval letters to clients and Realtors
- Scheduling and conducting loan closings
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, as well as analysis software.
- Basic understanding of relevant equipment, policies, procedures and strategies used in mortgage origination and underwriting.
- Ability to identify discrepancies and problems.
- Thorough understanding of customer service.
- Ability to be trustworthy and act with integrity.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
