Beekeeper with at least 1 year of experience for migratory beekeeping company. In general our migratory operation operates in at least 2-3 locations (one for spring, ie North Carolina where breeding activities are made) and 1-2 summer locations for honey production (ie South Dakota and New-York).
A unit is made of 10 000 to 20 0000 hives with traditionally 1 foreman (crew leader) managing 5000 hives with 4 workers. The beekeepers report to an operation manager (main beekeeper) for large operations or directly to the General Manager in smaller units. The beekeeper will work under the supervision of the foreman and Unit General Manager. The beekeeper is responsible for keeping the bees alive and achieving production goals. Missions:
- Bee directed by supervisor to ensure the targeted production numbers are achieved
respective of the time deadlines
- Perform day to day beekeeping operations; queen production, hive health checks and pest/parasite/ disease mitigation, nuc production, pollination efforts, honey production
- Bee able to follow directions while working autonomously; a self-starter who is able to work independently and in a team to achieve goals.
- Unload and load trucks to ensure proper logistics
- Aid in the extraction plant
- Ensure a good relationship with the landowners (yards leased where the beehives are
placed)
- Adhere to compliance rules decided by the general manager (Insurance, USDOT, Labor rules, Safety, production QC)
- Ensure the fleet (trucks, forklifts, equipment) is in good operational standing
- Ensure the quality control parameters of beehives via regular inspections
- Report daily per apiary: numbers of hives alive, strengths of the hives, production level, progress of the work related to the planning outlined by management
